Strategic Roundtable: Metrics that drive a more strategic approach to talent mobility

Invitation-only roundtable of leading international companies on Thursday 23 May 2019 hosted by Citi.

Early in this roundtable series, we concluded that our programs need to focus more on ensuring successful mobility rather than simply delivering compliant, smooth mobility at the lowest possible cost. Broadening the function’s focus in this way paves the way for closer ties with both talent management and with the business.

In order to demonstrate that the program is helping to deliver more successful global mobility we must be able to measure success:

  • Understanding success from the employee’s perspective requires a robust mechanism for capturing her/his experience across the assignment lifecycle.
  • Understanding success from the business perspective requires first a clear understanding of the business case for each assignment.
  • Capturing the judgements of key business stakeholders concerning the successes and shortcomings of each assignment can be used to produce metrics of success and return on investment.

In this roundtable, we will look at how the function can use new metrics such as these to help ensure the global mobility program is fit for purpose. What are the obstacles, the hurdles to be overcome, to introduce these metrics and to control – or at least influence – interventions which underpin successful outcomes.

To help shape the discussion, we will start by comparing the way companies gather, analyse and make use of the metrics readily available today.
